Art deco in Havana
Anywhere in Havana you can find art deco buildings. At the edge of
the old center there is the exotic Edificio Bacardí.
But there are also more modest examples. Near the Convento de Santa
Clara (Old Havana) a lot of old shops remind of the local Zarra-imperium.
The inscription Perfumeria is a fine example.
The Calle O'Reilly is also well provided with art deco styled ornamentations.
A fresh painted building near the harbour of Havana (Muelle ?).
The Edificio López Serrano in the suburb of El Vedado (Calle H#9)
is a luxury sky-scraper dating from 1932. The tower has 8 apartments
on each of the 14 stories and is a exuberant example of art deco.
The architects Ricardo Mira and Miguel Rosich designed the New York inspired
building.
School of Odontology 'Raul Gonzalez Sanchez' - Avenida Zapata.
Private house nearby the Edifio López Serrano.
19th century house refurbished with a sunny art deco jacket - Calle
San Lazaro.
Edificio Infanta - Calzada de Infanta.
The Casa de las Américas (Avenida de los Presidentes#Malecón)
looks like a concrete church, but it isn't. It employs the vertical
setbacks and geometrical terra-cotta motifs, characteristic of art deco
sky-scrapers.
