The Da Vinci Code: The Church Responds. Change does not come quickly or easily to an institution as old and as large as the Roman Catholic Church. Even when it is under attack by the secular and anti-religious forces of our age, the Church responds in a measured and judicious way. A great institution must not rush to react to the ever-shifting sands of modernity. Indeed that is one of the Church's enduring strengths -- and thus it stands the test of time. The recent religious controversy sparked by Dan Brown's best seller The Da Vinci Code, is a case in point. Finally, four years after its publication by Doubleday and a year after the release of the Hollywood movie based on it, this DVD presents some of the Church's reactions in the from of two documentary films and several short reports produced by Romereports. The DVD investigates many of the questions raised by The Da Vinic Code. Did Leonardo Da Vinci use his art to reveal secrets about the Holy Grail? Were Jesus and Mary Magdalene Lovers? Is Opus Dei, a secret organisation with assassins as members? Is Christianity the biggest cover-up in history? Dan Brown may think so, but one billion Catholics would beg to differ. In the two documentaries included in this DVD, Vatican officials, historians, theologian and experts in art history and Church history discuss the Da Vinci Code phenomenon that swept through popular culture like a storm. Yet the storm has subsided, and the Church stands strong. The Documentary Films: The Da Vinci Code: A Masterful Deception. The Da Vinci Files. Sylvia. Sylvia is based on the emotional true story of the passionate yet turbulent relationship between two of the greatest poets of the twentieth century. Sylvia Plath (Paltrow) and Ted Hughes (Craig) shared an unbreakable bond of love which is beautifully portrayed in this critically acclaimed and very moving film, it is a must-see. Darcey Bussell. To his delight, Paul discovers that Richard is giving a series of recitals in Barcelona. With unsubtle detective work he tracks Richard down and so begins a long summer of intimate lessons between crisp linen sheets, expertly tutored by the 'maestro'. Simultaneously, Paul's mother begins to delude herself that Richard is falling in love with her. Paul escapes her clutches and enrols at Juilliard, NYC, to be close to Richard. But his infatuation is soured when he meets Richard's agent and longtime lover, Mansourian (Corduner). Mario Cavaradossi enters to work on his portrait of Mart Magdalene - inspired by the Marchesa Attavanti (Angelotti's sister) whom he has seen but does not know. Angelotti ventures out and is recognised by his friend Mario, who hurries him back into the chapel as the singer Floria Tosca is heard calling outside. Forever suspicious, she jealously questions him, then prays, and reminds him of their rendezvous that evening. Suddenly recognising the Marchesa Attavanti in the painting, she explodes with renewed suspicion, but he reassures her. When she has gone, Mario summons Angelotti from the chapel; a cannon signals that the police have discovered his escape, so the two flee to Mario's villa. Meanwhile, the church fills with choirboys who are to sing in a Te Deum that day. Their excitement is silenced by the entrance of Baron Scarpia, chief of the secret police, in search of Angelotti. When Tosca comes back to her lover, Scarpia shows her a fan with the Attavanti crest, which he has just found. Thinking Mario faithless, Tosca tearfully vows vengeance and leaves. Scarpia sends his men to follow her and schemes to get her in his power. The spy Spoletta arrives at Farnese Palace. Not having found Angelotti, he brings in Mario who is interrogated while Tosca is heard singing at a Royal gala downstairs. She entered just as her lover is being taken to an adjoining room to be tortured. Unnerved by Scarpia's questioning and Mario's screams, she reveals Angelotti's hiding place. Mario is carried in; realising that has happened, he turns on Tosca. Mario is dragging to prison and Scarpia suggests that Tosca yield herself to him in exchange for the lover's life, but she fights off his embraces. Spoletta interrupts: faced with capture, Angelotti has killed himself. Tosca, forced to give in or lose her lover, agrees to Scarpia's proposition.
