Lebanon

Saida is located 39 kilometres south of Beirut. It was one of the main Cities of Phoenicia. During the besiege of Tyr by Alexander the Great, Sidon was powerful. During the Romain domination the city was autonomous. In 551 the city was nearly entirely destroyed by an earthquake. In 667 the Arabs conquered the city. Since then name of Sidon is Saida.
