Tyr is located 80 kilometres south of Beirut and 15 kilometres north of the border of Israel.
Originally the city was an island during the Phoenician time. Alexander the Great built a passage
to take the city. It was one of the main cities of Phoenicia from the 14th to the 9th century Before J.C.
Its habitants created Carthage city and their vessels were all around the Mediterranean sea.
The Arabic name of the city is Sour.
