Acne medications.? I am currently using sulfur acne medication(sulfacet-r)...But i recently got a new prescription for retin-a micro..which i wont be getting untill later this week.. should I still apply my current medication to my problem areas..or should i let my skin rest ..so to speak..untill i receive my new medication.(retin-a micro)????

Critty replied: "You can continue to use your medication until you start your new retinol cream. Try using the new cream only at night at first because it can be irritating but it does work wonders once your skin gets use to it."

Fairy Princess Lady replied: "I don't know, but my doctor gives me medication (pills) to take that works MUCH vetter than any cream I could buy anywhere else. If you're no doing this already, get perscriptions from your doctor. Usually they will know what kind will work best for you."

BizzyGal replied: "OK, Retina-a works really well... but there are a lot of precautions to take when starting it. #1: It DRIES your skin up sooo much, but don't try to reverse that effect, it will help in the long run. Retin-a might not totally help your skin, it depends on the condition of your skin. I would say it can't hurt if you continue to use your other medication until you get your retin-a. In the long run it's up to you. It might not improve your skin much by letting it rest a few days, but yourr skin will probably feel better if you give it a break (and you will want all the extra comfort you can get; retin-a is really tough on your skin before your skin has had time to get used to it.). If I were you I would let your skin rest for a day or two, see how it reacts, and then decide if you want to continue using your old medication until your new retin-a arrives."

PLEASE HELP ME CURE MY ACNE..I'VE TRIED ALMOST EVERYTHING(yes, I tried proactive)*PICS INCLUDED*? Hi, I turned 19 last month, but have had acne since age 13. I have tried proactive, clearasil, stridex (and all those benzoyl peroxide/salcylic acid stuff), sulfur, prescription antibiotics, a weird antibiotic/benzoyl peroxide prescription, birth control, home remedies (including toothpaste etc), zinc, face masks (such as mint julep masque), witch hazel/benzoyl peroxide and much more. Obviously none of those helped me. these are the pics: I've been getting highlights...because my acne looks even worst with darker hair. I don't even know what to do with my hair :/ I got it cut last week...but the lady kinda lied a bunch...she said i wouldn't have to style my bangs...but i have to straighten them everyday...same with the rest of my hair...(it was a cosmetology school since i'm poor) and she blamed everything on me when questioned by the teacher...so if you have any ideas for that as well that would be great ^^ If you could please help me with my skin (and hair if you want) that would be great. What type of acne do I have? I get these hard under-the-skin bumps which aren't very noticable in the pics...and i also get white heads...but I won't lie, I pop those >< Please answer my questions instead of just saying, "ewww! get a paper bag" or, "proactive!" Thanks and I'm so sorry if my pics gross you out.

maztek replied: "I also had this. Stop using all allopathy medicines and try Homeopathic. Results will be positive."

laserbike replied: "Just use that miracle grow stuff they have commercials for on TV every summer. Mix it with a bit of cornstarch and water, making a fine paste. Put it on your face and let it dry like a facial mask. Leave it on for a few hours, or while you sleep. Just peel it off when you're done. Works like a charm."

idahojule replied: "I vote for the homeopathic answer. Also, have you tried changing your diet? Or using a product with tea tree oil in it? Try antioxidants and foods that are good for the skin. Clean with natural products. Good luck!"

marlboro replied: "you know i have the same problem, and have had it for a long time. Recently i was told that i should probaby get my blood tested cause i might not be getting all the vitamins that i need, so that could be your problem too. i've tried like everything and nothing works so changing my diet is the next step....thats the only advice i can give you, sorry and best of luck !"

Best Acne Prescriptions? I use to use pro activ and it worked but it only got rid of the acne on my forhead and chin and never got rid of the hard ones that are kinda under the skin on my cheeks. I went to the dermatologist about 2 weeks ago and she gave me 10% Sodium Sulfacetamide 5% Sulfur wash twice a day and a gel to put on before bed called Ziana with 1.2% Clindamycin phosphate and Tretinoin 0.025% and its doing the same thing as pro activ and not helping with any of the acne on my cheeks. Does anyone know what are the best acne products that i should ask my dermatologist to prescribe for me? please help :(

K.R. replied: "order murad... that is way better than pro active!!! and its better than any dermatologist has given me... "

gouldbo replied: "accutane..it works"

Mikey Mike replied: "home-made acne treatment is better bro(i promise)! honey and onion juice(mix it). the best way to cure acne is to not worry about it. the more you worry the more it comes. i hope this works for you. good luck!"

Kalra®™$ replied: "Just check the links below and you can get your answer :- All the best :)"

kdawg replied: "DIFFERIN worked wonders for my skin"

Vate replied: "It has to be cured internally. Consult a homeopath for constitutional treatment for permamnet remedy. NO external application will solve your problem."

Andrew D replied: "If you are having cystic/nodular acne (the hard ones) that is not responding to other treatments, then it is time to consider Accutane. However, your dermatologist is javascript:void(0); Check Spellingprobably going to tell you that two weeks is probably not enough time for these medications to work. (They usually recommend two to three months of consistent treatment on those medications you have listed.) Having said that, it is difficult for *any* of those topical medications to treat cystic/nodular acne. Those medications are usually effective for moderate acne, not severe acne. Ideally, she should have also prescribed you an internal antibiotic, like erythromycin, doxycycline, sumycin, tetracycline, or Bactrim DS for the first two months until the third month when you skin should achieve a clear complexion from the combo forms of treatment. I would recommend that you call back to the doctor's offie and inquiring if there was something that could be added, like some type of oral antibiotic, that would be helpful the first couple of months of break-in therapy. Good luck! Let me know how it turns out for you!"

I have VERY stubborn acne & sensitive skin. What else can I try? I have acne, not cystic, but rather more like clogged pores. My skin won't exfoliate itself, and most exfoliants are too harsh for my skin. I have tried Proactiv, the Dr. Wexler program, Obagi Nu Derm, and nearly EVERY basic drugstore acne product to no relief. I have even had prescriptions for retin-A and antibiotics. Since I don't have cystic acne, I am guessing the stronger prescriptions are not for me. I also have very sensitive skin and break out in welts if I use any products that are too strong or harsh (i.e. sulfur, glycolic acid, etc). Any suggestions? I have seen a dermatologist and first he gave me antibiotics and retin-A. When that didn't work I asked about Accutane and he said I wasn't a good candidate. Time to get a new dermatologist?

dismantled_robot replied: "you should go see the dermatologist."

Isadora01 replied: "Given the litany of products you've tried so far, I think it's time to consult with a new dermatologist and stick with him to figure out the cause of your acne and how best to treat it."

rockwillrule4vr replied: "Get Cetaphil face wash. It's really good for clearing up acne and yet it's more gentle than soap. Get the lotion, too because you'll still need to moisturize your skin. I use it and it works wonder."

Devon P replied: "One word...ACUTANE. Trust me youll never be the same after it, you will have so much confidence and you will be bumbed you didnt try it sooner, my aunt my sister and i all went on it and we have the best skin, infact we get compliments on our skin now. I had skin exactly like yours, i tried all the products you tried and got no results, this one is permanint, you take one pill for four months and then stop the treatment all together and you wont have acne for the rest of your life. Trust me, ive been where you have been and its no fun, especially when you spend so much money on products that dont work and/or you have to keep using for the rest of your life to keep working. Ask me anything about this product if you have questions. Good Luck :-)"

Question on adult acne? I suffer from adult acne. It reached its worse with age. I'm 23 this year and it appears to just get worse with time. I've been to the dermatologist and I've been taking their prescription medicines and following a healthy diet but it doesn't prevent my breakouts. I recently came across an over the counter cream called Acnomel and its an adult acne cream that contains sulfur. I was wondering if anyone had reviews on it. Also if you are an adult with acne, how do you maintain your breakouts? Thanks

Acne that never goes away!!? I've had acne ever since the middle of 8th grade, when I really hit puberty hard. Since then I've been getting excessive amounts of acne appearing everywhere on my face (and on my body). From that point on, I've been caring for my face(and body) a lot, not excessively though (although I've have tried it). I've used products from Neutragena, Clearasel, Pro-active, Sulfur, Benzol Poraxide, Organic products, Acne kits, Scar repairs, and even African black soap intended for acne. As for my body acne, I've got acne and scars all over my back, legs, chest, and...down there. None have worked for me, and I mean none. They havn't prevented my acne, my face does not look clearer using their products, and sulfur only made me smell awful. I am now a Highschool Junior, and I still get the excessive amounts of acne as I've always have. I wash my face morning, midday, and night, and shower every day. I've come across many remedies and many techniques(hot/cold compress, honey, vitamins, no dairy products, better diet) none worked...I can say the only thing that HAS worked for me was sun tanning. The tanning almost removed most of my scars and made my face clear but as the weeks and months went by the acne and scars came back. Now I'm coming to yahoo questions, In frustration, and for help. I'm wondering if anyone has ever been in my helpless situation. Trying mostly every product in existence, and trying mostly every technique or remedy possible. My last resort is to visit a dermatologist and get a prescription of that one pill you take for 6 months. I hope I don't have to resort to that.

OzMD replied: "What the skin needs is a product that clears pores and kills bacteria, thus preventing hair follicles from clogging and turning into acne. Help With Acne Solutions?!?!? I'm 16 and i suffer from mild to sever acne. I play ice hockey 4 times weekly competetively and workout with a personal trainer twice a week, so i get plenty of exercise. I'll admit i'm not the healthiest eater in the world but I don't eat horribly. I've tried numerous prescription medications and products from drug stores including, Benzoyl peroxide wash, neutrogena face wash, tetracycolene, sulfur based creams, benzaclin, and prescription moisturizers. Not all at the same time of course.. but after using all of these with little to no success over the past year and a half im lost on what to do next. Any suggestions or personal remedies would be greatly appreciated :) And what foods would you suggest? for possible meals

Pənny Proud replied: "Because there are so many causes for acne, like genetics, hormones and stress levels, often times it takes more than a magic potion to get rid of it. Here are some tips that worked for me: STOP eating and drinking foods with refined or artificial sugars, like high fructose corn syrup, crystalline fructose or aspartame/phenylalanine. Up your vitamins C, E, K & A; Omega-3's, antioxidants; Flax seed & extra-virgin olive &coconut oils: swallow a spoonful a day. Do some exercise like dancing or yoga. Get a little sun everyday, no more than 10 minutes if you have a light complexion. Drink more water. Try using witchazel as a toner during the day (you can use it several times a day because it cleanses without drying out your skin), and unfiltered apple cider vinegar at night. A raw potato is cheap and brilliant acne natural cure, especially for whiteheads. The vitamin C makes your skin glow, and alkaline in the potato kills the bacteria on your face. The potato also has an exfoliating effect helping you to get rid of dead skin cells. Papaya fruit produces similar effect; you should also use it raw. (Make sure the potato isn't genetically modified!) A wash of milk with lime is a great treatment for blackheads. First bring a glass of milk to a gentle boil, and then add juice from half a lime. When the milk cools down it makes a great face wash. You can store it in the fridge for a couple days. (Make sure the milk doesn't come from cattle that have been treated with rBGH) Hope this helps! Good Luck!!!"

Flammietta replied: "Take Accutane for 5-8 months and be free of acne forever. It's a pill that turns off the glands that produce oil and dries out your skin. After taking it for that time period the changes are permanent. Though because of the nature of the drug, it's not suggested that you participate very actively in things that cause you to sweat. Everyone who has taken it that I know (including myself) has never had to use any sort of acne cream, acne wash or antibiotics ever again, despite having moderate to severe acne problems for the first half of our high school years."

Snow Freak! replied: "i know how you feel, i get bad acne, but the peny proud person is right, diet is a huge factor in determining the severity of a acne breakout - removing artificial sugar's will help a lot Also if your around oily products or work around a lot of fat, sugar and grease like at McDonald's, that will increase acne as well The only way i found as a sure fire way to improve my skin was alot of outdoor activity, sun and fresh clean air like on a mountain or at the sea"

Trust William replied: "Hi Mike, The watery gel from Aloe Vera plant is a highly effective natural cure against Acne. The enzyme-rich gel has very soothing anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It can also be taken internally and helps clean up and detox the digestive tract. This in turn can help clear up the skin. Gel or juice of Aloe Vera is highly useful in fading of acne scars. You can grow Aloe Vera plant in your home and apply freshly taken pure Aloe Vera gel to your scar. Otherwise many branded cosmetic companies manufactures pure Aloe Vera gel, so you can choose the best cosmetic companies to get Aloe Vera gel. Vitamin A is also a natural and effective Acne cure. Vitamin A promotes healthy skin. Vitamin E also helps in countering Acne. It is a natural antioxidant and beneficial for the skin. Tea Tree Oil is obtained from the Melaleuca alternifoliais tree from Australia. It is very effective against Acne as it contains bacteria-fighting substances called Terpenes. Acne is often caused by bacteria and the Terpenes either outright kill them or weaken them enough to be destroyed by protective antibodies. There are very little side effects from using Tea Tree Oil. Best acne treatment for pustules and cysts? After researching the different types of acne on the internet I have come to the conclusion that I have pustular acne with occasional cysts. I have acne for seven years now, and now that it has outlasted adolescents and the teen years, I think its time for it to go! I am pretty sure it has something to do with my hormones since I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I have tried every drug store brand and higher end brands of acne wash, cream, toner or spot gel and have tried systems like Acne Free and ProActive. None of these have helped in the slightest. My skin, although I have moderate-moderately severe acne and does typically oily, gets dried out VERY easily and salycylic acid and benzoyl peroxide especially irritate it. I have found sulfur and zinc to be much milder, but they have done little to help my acne. At this point I have given up hope on a topical treatment and am looking for suggestions for prescription antibiotics or medications. Accutane is my last resort, and am unable to take birth control pills due to a medical reason. My doctor is being not very helpful with this, so I have decided I will do the research then specifically ask her for that medication. Thanks you so much for your help!

Megan W replied: "Moderate Types of Acne Pustules: A pustule is an inflamed whitehead, usually consisting of a yellow to white head color. These can be characterized as looking inflamed and irritated, the best thing to do with a pustule is leave it alone and let it heal itself before causing further irritation. Papules: A papule is a pustule but without a head. It is a red irritated bump. Never pop a papule as it will cause damaging scarring and tissue damage. Treatment: Pustules and papules require the same treatment as above for whiteheads and blackheads, but require you to take more action because of their persistence. I recommend a 2.5% Benzyl Peroxide cream to calm the skin and prevent acne from forming in the first place. Go to your local drugstore and look for 2.5% Benzyl Peroxide in the acne cream ingredient list, it is quite common and easy to find. Severe Types of Acne Nodule: A nodule is an extreme version of a papule, characterised as being a large (1-3 cm), hard, and red bump. They can last anywhere from weeks to months, make sure to NEVER pop a nodule as it could cause it to last months longer than it would otherwise, as well as causing permanent skin damage. Cysts: A cysts is almost the same as a nodule, but is puss filled instead of hard. It reaches the same diameter and can last the same amount of time. The same rules apply for cysts as a nodule, no squeezing! Treatment: Severe acne requires the same steps as pustules and papules, but because of its severe nature can most likely not be cured by only these steps. It is likely you will need an oral medication called Accutane. Accutane is a high concentration of vitamin A, and a side effect of taking this high concentration is no acne or oil production. It can be very dangerous if taking incorrectly and will require you to take blood test monthly to confirm it isn't causing any damage to the liver. Accutane is only attainable if prescribed by a dermatologist or doctor, please visit one for further information. Taking Care of Acne Common Mistakes Over Washing: I know it can be difficult to have your face feeling dirty and oily throughout the day at times, but washing more than twice a day will just make your acne and oily skin worst. Use a gentle acne face wash to keep irritation to a minimum. Touching Your Face: Touching of the face is a common trait most humans naturally partake in once in a while. For an acne prone face this is a big no-no. See, your fingers produce oil just like your face does, but this oil comes in to contact with a lot more bacteria filled things then your face (keyboards, door handles, etc.) and when you touch your face with these oily fingers it transfers this bacteria filled oil onto your face, causing more acne. Expecting Immediate Results: Face acne treatment takes time to help your acne. Instead of only giving each acne product a 2 week chance before rushing onto the next treatment, wait about 2-3 months for a conclusion on whether that product has helped you or not."

Ra GS replied: "RaGS sez : Here we go again! I must have answered a dozen acne questions, and and every time I give the same answer, and every time I always get 10 points for giving a "Best Answer." So why argue with success, right! So, here goes! When I was in high school, I had acne, too. I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of those creepy, ugly zits! Well, I finally found the right cure. It was a fairly coarse-grain sandpaper! Yes! That's right! Sandpaper! Well, I'm 60 now and guess who doesn't have acne? You're right! That would be me! Give it a try!"

Jessica D replied: "I have polycystic ovarian syndrome too. I'm 14 and yes having this will cause acne because of the male hormones. I'm on birth control pills now, but before that I was on just female hormone pills which blocked male hormone production. could you use those maybe? they won't work instantly though, it took 2 months for me, but it's definitaly working. I also use a product called Circadia., on there you can find a place near you which sells it because they can't just sell it to individuals, it is quite expensive, so get some samples first if you do try, I promise it will help lol, literally nothing but this product works for me. and it's not a stupid scam like pro-activ either, I tried that and it made my skin worse. if you get pimples on ur body too, oxy body wash is good. it's very cheap, and it's made for male skin but it works really well my bacne is gone completely becaue of it. I really hope you try some of those things because it really helped me a lot :)"

AP replied: "You need to go to a skin doctor....they should be able to help you more than a reg doc"

lolitagirl replied: "Avoid eating too much sugar, and fried greasy food, it causes acne. Take 50mg of zinc pills a 3 times a day. You will see a reduction in a week, and almost all of your acne will be gone in a month. Remember, you must take it on a full stomach, or you will get sick. You can buy it at a pharmacy, where vitamins are sold."

help with me acne? PLEASE, please help? I;m a 14 year old girl. I have tried proactiv, nuetrogena, skinlogics, and many other generic systems withs sacyllic acid, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, or both. I have tried both scrubs and gel cleansers. I have been on a variety of prescription medications, Duac, Differin, oral medications. I currently have a prescription cleanser (3x day), retacin (I know thats spelled wrong) (1x day), another prescription topical with benzoyl peroxide (4x day), and prescription oral medication (2x day). I cannot change my diet, I eat healthy and drink only water except the occasional Gatorade or iced tea. I cannot cut out carbs as I am an athlete and runner. Nothing works. Most days I feel like hiding under the covers and never showing my face to the world again. I hate myself. I hate my skin. Even my mom, the other day said. "You are so pretty. If only your skin would clear up..." I do everything. I bring my medications to school to put them on at lunch. I've been to the dermatologist several times. You know the before pictures in the ads? Many times I look at them and wish my skin could be toned down to that. Its ridiculous. No boy looks my way twice, or probably ever will, and I hate it. Please suggest anything, I'm desparate. I hate it, and I hate how it makes me feel, and I hate how it affects me, I hate how people judge by appearances, and the more I hate, the more I stress, the more I acne I get, the more I hate and stress. I;m not even sure what this question is asking. Tips? Suggestions? please? I'm terrified of needles and would rather not screw up my whole body and chances of having healthy kids, so no thanks to accutane. Thanks for answering though.

Amy replied: "Your problem is most likely hormonal, meaning pills and ointments aren't going to do much for preventing acne, it will only help heal what you have on your skin now. And that doesn't help when it keeps coming back. I was on birth control (not for acne though) and my skin went perfectly clear. There was absolutely nothing on my face, and literally maybe only 1 or 2 on a monthly basis. However, it took about 2 months before it went entirely away. I think that was my problem, that I wanted an overnight fix. But anything you try will take a little while. give birth control a little time. you won't see results at first, and it may even appear worse, but in a few month's time, clearing up will really be noticeable My absolute best recommendations for you would be birth control or glycolic acid cleanser. Both can run a little expensive depending on your insurance. The birth control pill orthotricylen that I took was about $50 a month. A bottle of glycolic acid cleaner (mine is called glymed plus) is about $30 a bottle. so is the moisturizer. The thing about glycolic acid though is that for about three weeks your skin is going to peel through tons of layers and its going to get everything under the skin out.. so basically prepare to look beastly and flaky for a bit. but once that's over, your skin will be beautiful. okay, so final advice. try birth control for 3 months, and ask you dermatologist about glycolic acid. It may work wonders. p.s. As a girl, I would be very wary of accutane. If I had kids with bad acne, I'd only let boys do accutane, and I'd have the girls get on birth control. oh one last thing, if you have uneven skin tone or scarring (dark spots) ask your dermatologist about differen. it helps your healed skin look much better. Hope this helps!"

zomgMatt replied: "What you just described sounded exactly like me when I was 14 to 15 :P. I tried everything that seemed to work for everyone else except me, and life sucked due to my face. After no success my dermatologist recommend that I take accutane, which is seriously like the Armageddon of acne. Accutane WILL clear up any acne, guarenteed, but it's a VERY heavy pill and can cause serious birth defects for women and a ton of other side effects. It's a matter of commitment. You can take accutane and clear up your acne, but it's an extremely regulated process. For about 30 weeks you have to be on birth control, and once a month you have to get blood drawn after a 12-hour fast to make sure you don't get any blood side effects. Plus for the first two or so months your face will be unbelievably dry and peely. The results are flawless, though. I've been on it for 5 months now and my face is 100% cleared up, and it should keep your face clear for 5-10 years after on it. You gotta do what you gotta do :)"

Mexican Soap + Sugar that cleans Face Acne and Scars ? My friend told me to experiment with a soap that a Girl told him about is a Mexican Soap I think is Called Allugre I can't spell it right it doesn't show up on Google , But I asking here if anyone has heard of it. It help with people that have Acne. I have minor acne that has plague for me for a few years. But my friend has it pretty bad but he can't try it because of his new prescription ( < Is Helping) with conflict with it. He told me with helps with the scars and the Acne on the face. The Directions to use it are : Works out , exercise keep yourself busy. Don't eat junk food Sleep 7 to 8 hours a Day. Applied every night before going to bed. Wash it off But also you use a even amount of the soap and as for pure sugar applied on the face something like that. Right now I'm use Sulfur soap recently and it has help my face alot. I found the Alumbre rock on Ebay but not the soap that my friend told me that Lynda was talking about. Lynda replied: "Im not sure but it might be allumbre (alumbre) and the complete name is piedra de alumbre( alumbre rock or stone) Its a mineral rock, very safe, and its used as a natural deodorant, after shaving for those cuts, and for acne scars, you have to moist the rock and then rub it on your skin, and it works wonderfully, leaves your skin soft and clean, that's what i've heard but i have never used it, maybe if you go to a mexican store, somebody can explain you about it. Good luck!"
