The legend

What does it have special this race? Simply that it is the oldest race of endurance and certainly one of most beautiful. In 1965, when Jean-Jacques SCHWARTZ and Henri-Guy PARENT set-up the Eole-club, they want to also create a demonstration which does not exist nowhere elsewhere.

It will be thus the birth of the first race of endurance in Europe.

What will give its fame and its force to this demonstration, it on the one hand its is prize list; indeed for more than thirty years they have been always the best European pilots who climbed the highest step of the podium; in addition the beach itself takes part in this reputation. When one takes the departure of the " 6 Hours " it is known that there will be breakage and one requests so that that does not arrive at each turn of the circuit! The pilots suffer, but the hardware even more: the least pulley, the least bolt badly checked and it is the insurance to make party of the abandonments! Why? Because the beach is difficult, should be found its path, not to miss the changes by banks under penalty of finding itself in a zone of holes worthy of sliced of Verdun, to locate the " gutters ", to avoid the too soft sand banks. And then the race is not fixed; at the low tide it is necessary to find a new path; at the flood tide, knowledge to choose the good moment not to pass more on this bank of sea.

You understood it, it is a race which asks for best qualities of piloting, it is not inevitably fastest which will arrive the first but that which will be able to put its wheels where it is necessary, when it is necessary!

The 35th 6 Hours' Race

In 1966, the founders of Eole Club imagine to create the first race of endurance for sandyachting. The tide limiting the time of the race  on the beach, the time of race is fixed at 6 hours, with 2 pilots as at the 24 heures du  Mans.

But the first year, the race was not run for lack of wind.

The following year, the race is a great success. The Demoury's brothers, the pioneers of sandyachting arrived first.

In 1969 and 1970, the superb victories of the team Hans Lindermann and Marc Berlaimont complete to internationalize the competition. Hans Lindermann remained for the German clubs "Der König von Berck"...

This time sees crushing thesuperiority of the sandyachts of class 1 propelled by 18 m2 of sail. Soon more handy class 3 and their 7,35m2,  faster, arrived first and become the formulas 1 of the beaches.

Each year, the 6 Hours legend grows rich by some pages filled with inversions of situation, incidents and accidents, dominations or disappointments.

The winners are always confirmed champions, but many crowned champions never could register their name with the prize list.

The must of the race

A town at the beach

Contrary to many seaside town, which sleeped at the arrival of the autumn, the activity of Berck sur Mer, agglomeration of 25000 inhabitants, never stopped. In Berck, the sports, cultural, trade, continue their activities all the year.

A tonic climate

The air of Berck, particularly iodized, supports the high level sports activity, the Gulf Stream influences in a benevolent way this part of the coast and brings higher temperatures and durations of sunning longer than on all the surrounding coast.

An exceptional site

Berck sur Mer, it is a beach which offers, with low tide, twelve kilometers of sand, free of access for the practice of the sandyachting.

The sporting event

During  six hours two pilots take turns with the commands of each of the 40 sandyachts. The starting line  is   draw lots for places. The circuit is traced mainly in front of the dam of Berck, and makes it possible to the spectators to live the new development of the race since the commercial esplanade.

Communication

Is the sandyachting makes for the communication? Or is the communication made for sandyachting? Always the sandyachting is a sport of images!

Since 5 years, television has adapted this sport which, if these champions are not known, has the principal merit to be telegenic. But the andyachting can be also renewed. It is full transfer as for the identity of its champions; the changing is seizing the power. A very young changing sometimes, the champion of France 2000 classi 3 is only 17 years old!

A sport which is also renewed by its communication, it is the objective of this season 2000. Like it has done it for 5 years, the Steering Committee will provide as of the end of the competition of the video images broadcast, free of right.

The communication of today and tomorrow it is the Net! The Internet site of the Eole-club will thus provide on line the classifications of the race, reactualized every half-hour within the framework of a forum where you will be able to discuss and for better living the race we will, simultaneously, install photographs in a special page in this site.
