    TECHNICAL CARACTERISTIQUES
Dimensions of the galion are not known. However, according to the gauge of 240 tons, and according to the methods of construction of this time, and the tables of painting, one could reconstitute as accurately the plans of this boat, as possible.

 SANTA MARIA

        Caraque of the 15th century, ( 1492 )

How they were thus the boats of the great discovery of the New World?. The tradition speaks about 3 caravels, a fast type of boat with a light hull and an aerofoil, consistent in several masts and different standard from veils. The historians notice that actually the fleet of Colomb was made of two caravels, the Nina and Pinta and of a " Nao ", Santa Maria, a type of boat with 3 masts with two square sails and a lateen sail, equipped with a front strapping man. In fact Santa Maria is caraque. At that time the caraques ones were the largest armed ships, built in Spain and in Portugal.
