    There are over 40 different industrial B.T.S. streams, ranging from  electronics to production engineering, civil engineering  or maintenance, some with thousands of students, others with hardly more than a hundred.

        All the students have more or less the same High School background when they arrive and the level in English is mediocre on the whole - lower intermediate at the very best. In English, during the 110 hours or so of  the two- year course, the emphasis is on teaching English for engineering, and each stream has its own category of exam papers focussing on the very kind of  English required for the technical content.

        In most  papers there is  a written comprehension exercise  (a technical text which has to be translated into French and / or summed up  in French). In addition there is usually a writing test requiring students to write 100 - 150 words in English.

(The students also have oral exams which can be very different from one stream to another.)
