STATMENT FROM B. KOLELAS
PRESIDENT OF THE ERDDUN
PRIME MINISTER,
HEAD OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT
OF THE CONGO-BRAZZAVILLE
ON THE OCCASION OF THE OAU SUMMIT
We strongly hope that, the African head of States will give an opportunity for peace, pacific solution and reconciliation to the Congolese people on the occasion of the OAU summit at Ougadougou.
They should not take seriously any triumphal statements and lies about what is going on in Congo - Brazzaville.
It could not be said that, the country has been conquered and peace re-established:
1 - When, exaction, summary executions are continuing as scheduled in their so- called " Colombe II " exterminate plan.
2 - When, a few days ago, they put on their guard bishops of Congo after they complained for the politics of oppression, exaction, and extra- judiciaries executions which are continuing.
On the other hand, it is a shame to solely base your forces on a borrowing force like mercenaries, troops and foreign armies which have occupied the country until today. In spite of, the Security Council of the United Nations resolution 867 dated October 29, 1997 that asked, " Foreign forces and mercenaries to be removed immediately from Congo."
To turn down a peaceful solution, it is there, to take sides with the illegal power of Brazzaville, an irresponsible decision which is very grave for our people.
We think that, the renowned leaders of our continent are not going to take to Ouagadougou any responsibilities which will dive Congo - Brazzaville into an irreparable drama with unimaginable consequences. They must impose a peaceful solution to those who have resolutely engaged to run away in favor of the politics of a planned massacre, blinded by an avidity for the power of the power.
Issued on June 8, 1998
Bernard KOLELAS,
Prime Minister, Head of the Constitutional
Government of Congo - Brazzaville
