Today we want to explain everything

But if we could explain a painting, this would no more be art.

Do you want me to say what are for me the two qualities of art ?

It must be indescribable and inimitable.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir

1875-1882: most créative period of impressionism which nevertheless undergoes sharp critics; he exposes twice in the Salon de Paris and in several independent exhibitions.

1883: beginning of the Said "dry" period . Renoir changes style : his drawing becomes more precise, the colors colder and more smoothed. Considered by a lot as a regression, this period nevertheless contain some very interesting works.

The 30 last years of his life, Renoir has growing success and honors ; it participates in numerous exhibitions in several countries. During that time, he must fight against disease : rhumatism crises more and more painful which obliges him to install definitively on the riviera. Despite its distorted hands and the pain, he continues to paint till his death in Cagnes sur mer, December the 3rd 1919.

Renoir is certainly my preferred painter. No one better than him knows how to represent serenity, happiness, harmony, in subjects of a great simplicity, portraits or group scenes. His work also shows an extraordinary representation of feminine charm.
