Is 500mg Flagyl and also is Keflex safe to use during pregnancy? The ER doc prescribed them to my wife today. She has a couple of infections. She is 29 weeks pregnant. Is a 500mg dose of Flagyl safe to take twice a day? Is it is safe to use keflex at the same time?

pinkymachiney replied: "I'm not sure myself but I find it really helpful, with questions like these, to call a pharmacist. Any pharmacy and many grocery stores have pharmacies and if you call and ask for the pharmacist (you don't want an assistant) they will be able to give you the answers you need. If you don't get a good one the first time, try a different pharmacy. This is their area of specialty and I've found them really good. Good luck!"

sweetrelease82 replied: "Hmmm.... I'm not sure about how they work together, but here are two sites about the drugs themselves."

Due 09/10/09 ! :) replied: "Keflex is fine and so is Flagyl. I have took them both. Not at the same time though but as a doctor perscribed them im sure they wouldnt do so if it wasnt safe. call your ob if youre scared"

Has anyone taken Cephalexin (Sub for Keflex) 500MG 3 times a day? I was prescribed this medicine today and I need to know if there is any side effects. I have taken Amoxicillin and didn't have any allergic reactions. I have anxiety when I take certain medications, so I was just wondering what kind of experiences people has had with this drug.

Kate from Drugs.com replied: "All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Cephalexin: Diarrhea; dizziness; headache; indigestion; joint pain; stomach pain; tiredness. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Cephalexin: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); agitation; confusion; dark urine; decreased urination; fever; hallucinations; red, swollen, or blistered skin; seizures; severe or bloody diarrhea; severe stomach pain or cramps; severe tiredness; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual vaginal pain, odor, or discharge; yellowing of the eyes or skin. Keflex 500mg and Tooth Infection? I was prescribed Cephalexin 500mg (keflex) taken every 12 hr. for Tooth Infection. I was curious if anyone else has been prescribed this drug. I've always been given Penicilian for infections.

suffering replied: "Yes. It works great!"

Ms. Fits replied: "Keflex and Penicillin work pretty much the same way to help with infection"

damn_im_good81 replied: "I have used Keflex, I'm allergic to penicillin, so I get all kinds of "different" antibiotics. They smell, but they work!! Whatever you do, do NOT sniff the bottle!"

how long should i take Keflex (cephalexin) 500mg for my ingrown hair infection? i went to the doctor on monday and said it was an ingrown hair infection, so she prescribed me with this anti-biotic called Keflex (cephalexin). take one ever 12 hours. if i take this for about a week should my pimple/boil thing go away? -will it pop randomly? -what do i do once it pops? -or does it just go away without popping

sal1970 replied: "keflex may be taken without regard to meals. be sure to finish the medication unless directed otherwise by your doctor. do not pop the pimple unless the doctor provided you with a sterile needle. you should begin to see some improvement in 3-5 days. not sure if it will be completely gone in 7 days. how many keflex were you prescribed? did your doctor mention soaking in warm water several times a day? do not drink alcohol while takin keflex as a disulfiram reaction may occur (nausea/vomiting)."

Does anyone know the side effects of the anti-biotic keflex (500mg) for dogs? I have a 40lb black lad that just had surgery on his ear and the vet gave him keflex. He has been really droopy and sleepy lately (doesn't want to play). I just want to make sure this antibiotic isn't hurting him, but I couldn't find much info online about it.

Katie K replied: "I've never given it to a dog, but I've taken it. For me, it was a great antibiotic and gave me no side affects (while others have). I'd guess maybe he's sleepy due to the ear infection. Either way, I'm sure you could call your vet and get his/her opinion."

KimbeeJ replied: "The most common side-effect is vomiting. It shouldn't make him sleepy at all. He may just be tired out from being at the vets and going through surgery. He should bounce back in a day or two. Call your vet tomorrow if he's not eating. Oh, and give Keflex with food to help reduce nausea. :)"

Iggy's Spoiled Rotten Demon replied: "Yes they will make your dog well quick, and will make them sleepy..so listen to your vet, it is good for them......is a fast acting way to get your dog healthy again...quickly we give this to dogs at the shelter and it really is good..... good luck let the dog sleep and rest, it is sick from surgery and needs to heal slowly and properly...the dog will be fine.. just watch a few more days and will be up after you again. if any real concerns, please call your vet back, but this is normal for them to sleep with the strong med.. our vets at the shelter gives this med all the time, it will work great..since your dog had surgery, it will prevent any infection from the surgery. hope your baby gets to feeling well soon..."

Sparkles8A replied: "the keflex should not have any major side effect, maybe some GI issues like diarrhea because that is common with a lot of antibiotics. What type of surgery did he have? He might just be down and out from recovering from surgery. How long ago was the procedure done?"

Dobiegang replied: "Vomiting & diarrhea are the most common side effects. He is probably just recovering from the anestetic. Here is info about Keflex."

baby girl ginger replied: "well, if he just had surgery its probably from the anesthesia. Give him a day or two if still not acting right call the vet, unless other more serious issues come up, then call the vet immediately."

Keflex 500mg and Birth Control Pill? I need to get a root canal, and my dentist prescribed me Keflex 500. I also take oral contraceptives.....he didn't say anything about it affecting the effectiveness of my BCP, but I just remembered that some antibiotics do that. My husband and I had unprotected sex yesterday, and it was during my period...do you think that I could get pregnant??? I started taking the pills on Thurs...

ametcalf2007 replied: "If you didn't take the Keflex yet than I wouldn't worry too much. Call a pharmacist before you take it and ask if there is an alternative that can be used. If you already took both than there is a possibility that you could become pregnant (period or no period). I doubt it though. If you only took the Keflex once or even a couple of times I don't think it will matter that much. But like I said call a pharacist (like at Walgreen's, they're very helpful) just to make sure. Here is a website that I looked on to find out Keflex. It's also a great tool if you have any drug or medical questions! I wish you luck!!! (root canals are no fun...)"

keflex 500mg? Can keflex be taken by someone that has a history of tia's small strokes,,thank you

sweet sue replied: "No reason not to unless you're allergic. Keflex is a broad spectrum antibiotic used for many infections. It does not affect the brain. RN"

zzzzz replied: "why not ask your doctor or pharmacist? safer and more accurate information as it might interact with some other medication you are taking"

Is Cephalexin (Keflex) available as a suspension in 500mg? My doctor prescribed 500mg capsules of Cephalexin for an infection I got, and I've been having trouble swallowing them. (See my question in regards to this.) I asked if I could get it switched to a suspension instead, but I was told that no such thing existed. Help?

daddyrx replied: "Keflex (cephalexin) IS available as a suspension. It comes in 2 strengths, 125mg/5ml and 250mg/5ml."

is 500mg of keflex too much to give to an eleven year old? Can I give a 500mg pill of keflex to an eleven year old child

badbadboy6979 replied: "if you're worried that its too much, try to give him half twice as often. I'm on it now, I'm a big 6' 200 lb guy, and I took about 1500 mg within the first 3 hours, no ill effects.... Just less volume more often, he'll be fine."

micheletmoore replied: "NEVER give a child medicine he has not been prescribed. Children react differently to medicines than adults. I am pretty sure Keflex is ok for kids, but still take them to the Dr"

Marilyn E replied: "You should NOT be giving any child a medication that is not prescribed for him. The doctor is the only one who can decide if a medicine is right. And one pill of an antibiotic is not enough to do anything beneficial. You need to take it for ten days to do any good. ASK YOUR DOCTOR!!!"

zippythejessi replied: "If the doctor prescribed it, then yes. Antibiotics are dosed according to the weight of the person, combined with what the ailment is. In other words, you don't want to give a 35lb kid with a sinus infection Cipro - that's like blasting a mosquito with a flame thrower."
