Summer Resort

The Blue lagoon is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by an old echosystem of dunes, but it communicates still with the sea by a narrow canal. The Lagoon is fed by the soft water from two differents rivers.

The village was originally a pilgrimage place. Seven "Marabouts" walked overland from Egypt in the 10th century to worship by the Ocean. You can still visit the tomb ot Moulay Bousselham, (the Saint with a Cape) who was the leader of the group and gave his name to this place.

It has developed tremenduously in these last 20 years. The small original fishermen village is being replaced by secondary houses open only during 5 to 6 weeks in July and August.

The invasion of the beaches during the two summer month of July and August make the place a favorit resort for morrocans from Fez and Meknes with water-skying, surfing, fishing and swimming...

The main street is one long line of cafes and restaurants which offers divers salads, and large plates of delicious fried fresh fish. Street sellers singers and discotheques invade the place as well. A beautiful camping ground by the small harboug can receive up to 800 people...

But on the last week-end of August everybody goes home and the Lagoon becomes once more a quiet paradise ready to wellcome the first arrival of migrating birds in September.
