| The mobiles under Windows
Smartphone integrate, in standard, a MMC (MultiMediaCard)
and SD (Secure Digital) memory card slot. These
memory cards make it possible to increase in a significant
way the storage capacities of the smartphones: data,
applications, MP3, photographs, vidéos…
But how to choose its memory card and
at which price? Where to find cards at a reasonable
price?
Before answering these questions, we
propose to present to you the various memory cards
on the market as well as a zoom on the Secure
Digital Card.

There are several types of memory
cards on the market :
- Secure Digital Card (SD Card)
:
By its size (the smallest of the memory cards),
its storage capacity and its speed of transfer,
this card becomes the new standard of the memory
cards. One finds it today in a lot of devices (numerical
camera, video camera, phones, portable computers,
Pocket PC, office computers, MP3 Walkman…).
Moreover, there is an upward compatibility with
the cards Mutimedia Card (MMC), i.e. a SD Card slot
is able to read a MMC.
- Xd Card :
Recently coming on the market, it positions itself
in competing with the SD Card. It has a size, capacities
and a flow similar to the SD Card. Its price is
slightly higher than a SD Card .
- Multi-media Card (MMC) :
Of the same dimension but older than the SD Card,
many devices use this card. Less powerful and of
less capacity, it is replaced today by the SD Card
.
- SmartMedia :
Before the arrival of the MMC and SD Card, it was
the most used of the memory cards, but also the
most fragile. It is today in the process of disappearance.
- Compactflash :
A little thicker than SmartMedia, the compactflash
is also more evolutionary. Its capacity can go up
to 128 Mo.
- Memorystick of Sony :
Used only in the Sony devices, this card proposes
a good size/memory ratio. However, it seems a little
restrictive and works only on the devices of the
manufacturer.
