The Templars

What' your last formation ? the current line-up of The Templars is... Carl Tanplar (23) lead vocals and lead guitar Philippe Templar (25 ) the drums Don Templar ( 24 ) bass and backing vocals we officially formed in 1992... but songs were actually written two years before that which explains why we have so many songs released. In 1990 carl and I were practicing with covers and a few originals until our friends said that we should become a band officially.

Your unforgettable gigs ? The best gigs we've played wera at the following concerts... - the Channel Club in Boston with the Bruisers a Oxblood - the second D.C. Oi! festival in 1993 with the Anti-Heroes, Oxblood, Pist N' Broke and Stormwatch. -the Tilt in Nev York with The Press, Those Unknown and Oxblood -the Grand in Nev York with Wretched Ones, Oxblood and Blanks 77 -the Bank in New York with Red Alert, Oxblood, Battle Cry, the Casualties & Patriot -Tramps in New York with the Business, Pist N' Broke, oxblood, Battlecry and Vibram 94 now... the worst gig was at... -the Niddle East club in Boston with All Mod Cons, The Allstonians and The Slackers -the Warehouse in New York with Oxblood and BattleCry. these were our worst gigs because the sound system was shitty and we weren't in the best of rnoods to play those concerts.

How is the scene in New york ? The scene in New York is the best in the United States... there are only two other places where the scene is almost as good as ours... Atlanta and California. Ask anyone who has been to New York and they'll you that our scene is top notch... no poseurs and no political dickheads... only one bad point however... not enough women. Now if we had alot of women into oi! in New York then it would become a skinhead paradise!!! There are always good shows to go to... mostly ska, but oi!/Punk are somewhat frequent also. Anyone from Nantes can come and find out for themselves... just write ahead of time so we can plan a good time while you're in New York... but remember if you are political (left/right), be sure to leave your viewpoints back in France or else you may just need a one-vay ticket!!

Can you give us some good address in your town ? Once you're in New York we can take you to the natural landmarks of New York like the World Trade Center, the Empire State Buildinq, the Statue Of Liberty and then we can take you to all the cool hang out spots like Cherry Tavern and Washington square Park... next up we'll hit all the cool record shoppes like Generation Records, Bleeker Bobs, Second Coming and Venus Records and then the skinhead gear shoppes like 99X and other shoppes like the Moon Records Store. Other clothing stores are located all over the city so finding denim jeans and denim jackets are very easy to find at a reasonable price... well, the best way to find out is to come and find out for yourselves!I

What's kind of music do you listen ? All the guys in band listen to various Oi! and punk. Carl and I listen to alot of British & French Oi! and punk as well as tons of skinhead reggae and ska... 2-Tone and 77 punk is also listened to very frequently. As of right now I'11 list my Oi! top ten and my skinhead reggae top ten...

- Snix "Le meilleur de moi-meme" - Vicious Rumours "Three stripes on your arm" - On Parole "Condemned" - Straw Dogs "Keep the faith alive" - Iron Cross "Shadows in the night" - 4 skins "remembrance day"- Antisocial "Your choice" - Komintern Sect "Ulster" - Cockney Rejects "Someone like you" - The Last Resort "Held hostage"

With which bands would you like to play ? I wish that it was easier for European Oi! bands to come over and play in the States... especially bands like Klasse Kriminale, The Herberts, Anti-Patik, The Pride, Agent Bulldogg, Boisterous and Red London. It's a shame that plane tickets cost so much. If they were real cheap we'd came over and play in Nantes... right in Fabie's kitchen if possible, hahahaha!!

Do you play many covers ? This is the list of covers that we've done since forming... "Teenage Warning" by the Angelic Upstarts, "Urban Soldiers" by the Oppressed, "Crucified" by Iron Cross, "Violence In Our Minds", "Rebels With A Cause", "Soulboys" and "Stormtroopers In Sta-Prest" by The Resort, "Someone's Gonna Die" and "I Don't Need You" by Blitz, "World War" by Cambat 84, "Running Riot" by Cock Sparrer, "Chaos", "Clockwork Skinhead" and "Evil" by the 4 Skins, "New Punks" by Anti-Social, "Back With A Bang by Skrewdriver.

In US, is it the same skinheads in hardcore gigs and in oi gigs ? Unfortunately yes... back in the late eighties, the only Oi! bands around in New York were The Press, The Radicts and Y.D.L. All the Oi skins went to those concerts as well as the hardcore matinees at CBGB's. Sometimes the hardcore bands played Oi! covers!! Back then hardcore shows were the only shows where true skinhead could hang out besides the ska shows... there would be hardcore bands playing the shows but outside people would have radios blasting the Rejects, Crux, Sham or whatever... nowadays hardcore has lost it's punk edge and has taken on a hoodlum look samewhat resembling the zulus you find in France. Now hardcore is about gang bullshit and not about music... but now New York has a healthy Oi! scene and all the hardcore losers can shoot thanselves at their own shows and not fuck up our shows!

Drink, Scooter, Sport, Tatoo, girls... I personally do not drink... occasionally I'll have a Guinness... Carl is a different story, he'll drink just about anything with alcohol in it... especially if it is European. I have no scooter but like everyone else I'd like to own one. The only sports I like to watch are futbol [soccer] and American football... my favorite soccer teams are the Brazilian National Team [Roberto Falcau spirit lives on!] and West Ham United who once again have beat the odds and avoided being relegatedl! Never underestimate the Hammers!! Carl has many tattoos... I have none... yet! Girls!!! But of course!! Carl and I both love women... especially the women in France... delicate & intelligent!!

Answer to the question you would like we ask you ? I don't understand but I'll ask you a question... "Why is it that when you compare American skinhead girls to French and other European skinhead girls... the French and European girls look better and are nicer than the American ones who don't know shit about the subculture "also" Are any French women moving to New York anytime soon, hahaha???"

Can you make a draw for Vauriens' s readers ? Okay, here is my drawing...
