Seizure Disorder Epilepsy
A chronic neurological condition, Epilepsy is characterized by recurrent and unprovoked seizures. Epilepsy is most commonly controlled through the use of various medications, but can sometimes patients will even undergo surgical procedures to try and further control the condition. As mentioned above the main characteristic of epilepsy is the presence of recurrent and unprovoked seizures, this is the main diagnosis requirement. A seizure is a temporary alteration in brain functions that expresses itself into a changed mental state, tonic or clonic movement among other symptoms. Seizures are due to temporary abnormal electrical activity of a group of brain cells. Typically tests such as: EEG, brain MRI, SPECT, PET, and magnetoencephalography to help constrict the affect area of the brain as well as classify the epileptic syndrome. All of these different tests however, are not actually usefull in the orginal diagnosis. The Platinum standard for diagnosis is through the long-term video-EEG monitoring for epilepsy. High costs and inconvenience however make this method not as wide spread as one might think. Although all of the symptoms of epilepsy are not known, many...

Health Fitness Guide Knowledge Is Power
Having knowledge but lacking the power to express it clearly is no better than never having any ideas at all - Pericles There are two kinds of knowledge when it comes to fitness; general and specialized. General knowledge tends to be of little value when achieving your fitness goals. Knowing that weight lifting, for example, can help you lose weight is of little use by itself. Once you specialize your information to know that a full-body workout doing exercises such as crunches, bicep curls, or squats build muscle which require more energy which can then burn excess fat, then you can formulate a complete plan to achieve your goal. Knowledge by itself is useless in the pursuit of fitness goals unless it s backed by a definite plan of action. Unused knowledge is only potential power. Putting specialized knowledge to work through written, definite plans powers the engine of your fitness goals. The true definition of an educated person is not a large amount of general or specialized knowledge. Look in any university or college. There are plenty of professors with a huge amount of specialized knowledge and a student population gaining general knowledge. Rather, an educated...

Women At Higher Risk For Vision Loss
More women than men are at risk for vision loss. In fact, of the 3.4 million Americans age 40 and older who are visually impaired, 75 percent are women. Of the four leading causes of blindness in older Americans - age-related macular degeneration, cataract, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy - the rate of women s cases outnumbers the men in all four categories. And because women on average tend to outlive men, they are even more affected by age-related eye diseases. There are no cures for these diseases, but vision loss can be delayed significantly if detected and treated early. Prevent Blindness America, a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving sight, encourages women to get their eyes checked regularly by an eye care professional at least once every other year, especially those who are 55 or older. Women with diabetes may need to go more often. All women should visit their eye doctor, even if they have no problems seeing.

Interesting Features Of Anorexia
Anorexia is a very common neuropsychological disorder that has a very high incidence in the young population. Anorexia is not just an eating disorder, it also involves many addictive behaviors and the development of various phobias related to food and being fat. Anorexics develop inaccurate perceptions of their physical appearance and they often see themselves as fat, regardless of how much they actually weigh. Anorexia is a very complex disorder caused by multiple interrelated factors. Although in the past anorexia was thought to be a purely physiological disorder, recent studies have revealed that it occurs on the premises of neuropsychological dysfunctions. Certain environmental factors also play a major role in the development of anorexia and the disorder seems to occur due to poor adaptation to the requirements and the ideals imposed by the society. In many cases, anorexia is developed by teenagers who come from very restrictive, demanding families. Children raised in a cold, insecure, non-functional familial environment are very exposed to developing anorexia. Young people who originate from dysfunctional families often suffer from depression, emotional...
